We have been supporters of the wonderful work done by local, not for profit organisation Rescued with Love for many, many years.
A few years ago we arranged for our guests to be able to donate $10 to Rescued with Love. When they booked accommodation directly on our website and we match dollar for dollar any donations our guests contribute.
Recently we launched an Instagram competition asking followers to leave a comment and say why they deserved a pet friendly holiday. The offer was a stay at one of our newly launched properties CAPRI HOUSE. We received many, many nominations but one particular one struck us.
Netta was nominated by fellow volunteers Kae and Irene for all the work she was doing looking after rescued dogs and managing RWL. At the competition close, we couldn’t go past this special story and so this is Netta’s story after she jumped at the chance to stay within weeks of winning!
“Getting away for a break is not something that’s easy to do when you run a rescue. I’ve been managing RWL for a little over 2 years now, something I feel very privileged to have been given the honour and trust to do and I love it but sometimes there can be little time for life outside rescue. It’s something I love but it can become all-consuming, no breaks, (even when you do take days off, Murphy’s law – emergency cases are inevitable).
As with anyone involved in running a rescue knows, there really is no switching off for you, or for your family. There was one time, where hubby was planning the most amazing Japan cruise on our anniversary.
Dates were set, itinerary was decided on and he was about to do the final booking, when I asked him to put on hold indefinitely for me, so I could take in a litter of pups from a farm that was “excess stock”, “not required” and going to be “got rid of one way or another” because their mum needed to get back to work.
It was going to mean weeks of at least 4 hourly feeds until they were eating on their own and potentially months before they were big enough to be desexed and ready for adoption. I’m lucky I do have such an incredible and supportive family. Hubby was disappointed, but he understood. This is life in rescue.
So last week, when two very beautiful ladies nominated me to win a two-night stay in Pet Friendly accommodation, I felt very special, blessed, to have such lovely, thoughtful, supportive friends.
When I won, I cannot tell you how excited I was.
I booked myself in as soon as physically possible!
Organising things around my son’s shift work, so the two that would be less stressed staying home could stay home, and the other two that can’t bear to be away from their Mumma could come.
One is low vision, old and with dementia (Snowy), who needs you to be around and the other is just a naughty spoilt little boy (ummm hmmm… Sherlock).
The accommodation was impeccable, the styling gorgeous, but it was also practical, comfortable and so cosy with the open fireplace. Every single possible utensil and convenience was there, and I so totally have kitchen envy. If the property ever comes up for sale……
The two mummas boys had a lovely stay, they settled in like it was their home.
We had lovely beach outings each day at Rye, a trip to the pet friendly Green Olive at Red Hill (olive farm and vineyard), where they met the friendly Kelpies that live there. They had a little wander on the property and stared with big sad eyes until they were given a couple of treats off the grazing plates while mum and dad had a little tipple. They lazed away each night in front of the cosy fireplace.
I cannot thank my friends enough for nominating me and I cannot recommend Ocean Blue Coastal Retreats Retreats more highly. Not only is their accommodation truly stunning but they are long term supporters of Rescued With Love.
I’m back, refreshed, and will soon be planning my next stay in another of their properties. Having somewhere that I can take the dogs means there really is no reason not to!”
We are thrilled to have hosted Netta. She also received a bottle of local sparkling and local chocolate, a breakfast hamper and 2 passes to the Peninsula Hot Springs.
