It’s hard to hold back the tears when seeing how the bushfires have devastated Australia’s wild animals. The images we have seen over the last week or so are so devastating that they are almost too hard to comprehend. Reports that over 500 million animals have been killed throughout Australia is absolutely heartbreaking. As an animal-loving business, the team at Ocean Blue Coastal Retreats have put together some ideas for how we can help the animals in the bushfires.
Numerous organizations, including NSW wildlife rescue organization WIRES; The Rescue Collective; and The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital have been working to help injured animals and will be providing help for weeks and months to come. Along with medical supplies, they need money to supply food for the animals they are caring for. We also want to say thank you to every person who works tirelessly to save and support our precious wildlife. From the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU!
Below are just a few organizations that are working to help with Australian wildlife in distress. Donations are the best way to help.
You can help by donating directly to these organizations
PORT MACQUARIE KOALA HOSPITAL
Here’s how you can help the koalas hit by the recent horror bushfires
Your donation helps the Koala Hospital with the rescue and treatment of sick and injured koalas and release back to their home range if possible; also the conservation and expansion of habitat, collection of information for research relating to habitat, disease, nutrition and habits of wild koalas and to provide educational material, to increase public awareness of all aspects of the koala. WIRES – EMERGENCY FUND FOR WILDLIFE
Summer is always extremely busy for wildlife rescues, with WIRES regularly receiving 600-1000 calls a day from the community needing wildlife rescue advice and assistance for sick, injured and orphaned animals. This summer there is the additional stress of the emergency events and surviving animals will be struggling long-term with dire food and water shortages and loss of habitat.
Join us in supporting a good cause? Donate money to WIRES Wildlife Rescue and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a lot or a little. Anything helps. Thank you for your support. To donate to WIRES please follow the link below:
Wildlife Victoria is aware of dozens of wildlife shelters and carers around the state that have been affected by the Victorian bushfires and extreme heat events.
Donations to their Victorian bushfire appeal will be distributed to wildlife shelters and carers to help rebuild enclosures and equipment that they have lost in the fires so that they can continue their lifesaving work, and support those that are struggling to cope with the enormous number of animals that will need care in the coming weeks and months.
