Mornington Peninsula Activities on the Bay

Boat tours, Dolphins, Seals, Penguins around Port Phillip Heads – South Bay Eco Adventures

Unfortunately, not everything is centred around the Mornington Peninsula.

Although there are a number of Mornington Peninsula activities that allows you to explore the hidden gem that is Port Phillip Bay including Moonraker Dolphin Swims, Bayplay Adventures and Rip Charters to name but a few, we have found a Mornington Peninsula Activity that is really located at Queenscliff but with a short ferry connection we are taking it as our own.

Port Phillip Bay is vast with Sorrento at one point, Melbourne at another and Queenscliff bringing in the end of this horseshoe bay the good thing is that Sorrento and Queenscliff are only 45 minutes apart by Searoad Ferry.  If you want something to do when you are staying in our holiday rentals on the Mornington Peninsula then you can always take a Ferry trip across to Queenscliff in the morning and when you reach the beautiful Victorian town of Queenscliff, contact South Bay Eco Adventures. Their Discovery tour is a taste of what Southern Port Phillip Bay has to offer. The 90 minute Discovery tour is an ideal timeframe for the families with young children. Once you leave the Queenscliff Harbour, the history of the Port Phillip Bay lighthouses and shipping channels will be highlighted as you traverse the bay to Point Nepean. Point Nepean offers glimpses of the notorious Rip, unveiling the shipwreck past of the early settlers and the present day technology and services allowing ships to enter the Port of Melbourne. As you drift past Fort Nepean into Nepean Bay Marine National Park, the rich military history of Port Phillip Bay will be unravelled. Nepean Bay offers a sheltered viewport of the Bay, with views back to Queenscliff. Cruising east from Point Nepean you traverse the dolphin sanctuary, where pods of dolphins can be seen frolicking in the waters of Portsea Quarantine Station. From here you shift your direction north to the Bay’s resident Australian Fur Seal haul out at Chinaman’s Hat. It’s a great photo opportunity as the seals bask in the sun. Then as you near the end of your trip you return via the Australasian Gannet colony at Pope’s Eye, just in time for lunch at the Harbour.
