Midway on the Port Phillip Bay side coast, Mount Martha has something of a peaceful & beautiful simplicity that has has you breathing out the moment you drive into the village.  This small town has the benefit of having everything you need should you wish to pull up, forget the car and stay local your whole break whilst also being centrally located to enjoy all the Peninsula has to offer from beaches to vineyards.

The Beach

Mount Martha South Beach

The photos of the Mount Martha beach speak for themselves.  It is not difficult to see why this 2km long stretch of beautiful sand is a favourite with holiday makers and the locals and is one of the most beautiful as well as safe beaches on the Peninsula.

Popular for bathers, boaters and sailors.  The surf lifesaving club is located at the northern end of the beach where there is also  matting making it accessible for all.

The Walks

Walking Mount Martha

Adjacent to the village is a foreshore reserve that offers an enjoyable boardwalk with an audio trail along the creek through the Balcombe Creek Wetlands - home to a rich selection bird life. The boardwalk ends at the The Briars Park.

The Briars

Situated at Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula, The Briars is a beautiful conservation site comprising of a wildlife sanctuary, heritage homestead, nursery, eco-living display centre, eco-camp, eateries and astronomy centre.

The Briars is one of the first houses built by Europeans on the Mornington Peninsula’s. It was settled in 1840 by Captain James Reid, a retired army officer. He took up a 2000 hectare pastoral lease which he named Tichin-Gorourke after the Boonwurrung name for Balcombe Creek meaning “voice of many frogs”.

We love Tingo & Pomme for amazing books, jewellery, homewares & clothing.  Cibo Delicatessen has everything you need if you want to throw something yummy together back at your holiday home.

Staying local to eat out is top of our list when we are away on a break.  Mount Martha has a wonderful mix of stylishly relaxed places to eat from dawn until dusk.  We love Mr Curtis and South Beach Project for brekkie, Volpino for pizza & Chill for amazing Gelato

Mount Martha is spoilt with not one, but two markets.  South Beach Market and The Briars Market offer locally created crafts and produce.  Check out their websites for dates throughout the year.
