School Holiday Fun on the Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula Family Friendly Activities

Looking for things to do on the Mornington Peninsula, family friendly activities abound these school holidays? Even though the natural beauty of the Mornington Peninsula is breathtaking are the kids fully engaged in nature?

Kids do love the walks through the National Park especially if there is a beach at the end of it..water and kids are like magnets and iron shavings.

Bushwalks down to the beautiful bays spotting Kangaroos and Echidnas along the way will always keep their attention, but for how long?

A historic trek through Point Nepean to discover the Quarantine Station and the fort is a must, its like a historic theme park.

BUT there comes a point when you need to exhaust them for a day with real kids stuff.

Take a look at these fun activities to keep the kids happy and you sane!

1. Top Fun

The quintessential school holiday venue to visit on the Mornington Peninsula.

Head to Top Fun in Rosebud for the traditional kids entertainment. Reminiscent of the seaside holidays in a bygone era the kids will love collecting the tokens from the games even though you will be horrified when 250 million thousand won tokens return them a couple of lollies and a plastic toy.  Get over it, the kids have. Its all about the fun they are having.

Places to Eat

Finding places to take the kids can sometimes prove difficult if you are fed up with the proverbial fish and chips or burgers.  We all know the children are always drawn to the golden arches, but not on our watch. What about something a little bit more local and just a tad more interesting. Check out some of our favourite Mornington Peninsula places to eat (with the kids in mind):

Captains of Rye

Captains of Rye is spread over 3 areas each with its own personality for you to enjoy… Captains Corner, Captains of Rye and Captains Canteen.

There isn’t a vast menu but the portions make up for it – and the milkshakes come in smaller kids sizes.  Service is excellent, with lots of arty stuff  cool stuff to look at on the walls and tucked away on shelves. They also stock Aussie-made groceries and goodies so you can grab some something to take home.

If you are staying at any one of our Ocean Blue Coastal Retreats holiday rentals then ask us how you can get a free cocktail from the hippest rum bar inspired by the old days with its cool beach decor, groovy tunes and retro vibe.  Obviously the kids will order a mocktail not a cocktail!

Freaky Tiki

Freaky Tiki is Rye’s healthiest breakfast and lunch destination.  Famous for its hearty servings, delicious coffee and Gillgan’s Island vibe, a visit is a must when staying locally.  Salads are to die for.  Yes we know this is healthy eating but just look at that food.  The kids will be easily deceived and you will know that you have done the right thing at least once in the day by serving them something that looks naughty but is filled with goodness.

If you are staying at any one of our Ocean Blue Coastal Retreats holiday rentals then ask us how you can get a Free salad size upgrade.*
